Marissa Velez is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker whose work sits at the intersection of intimacy, identity, and bold visual storytelling. With a background in creative direction and a lifelong obsession with cinema, she brings a sharp, stylish perspective to stories that probe the emotional lives of women, often through themes of control, memory, and desire. Her films are known for their rich tone, tactile imagery, and a quiet sense of unease—frequently shot on 16mm or 35mm to preserve a raw, physical texture.

Her directorial debut Eydie (2022) premiered at several festivals, marking the start of a larger body of work centered on female interiority. Her follow-up short, Panties (2024), received multiple awards and was spotlighted by Nowness and Director’s Library for its unflinching look at intimacy, ownership, and shame. She is currently developing two original feature films.

Before stepping behind the camera full time, Marissa led global campaigns for fashion houses like Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta, and rag & bone—creating award-winning brand films that challenged the conventions of fashion storytelling. This past work informs her cinematic language: emotionally expressive, visually precise, and unafraid of contradiction.

Marissa’s films have screened at Tribeca, Milan, and the New York Film Festival, and her commercial work has received honors from the Webbys, Clios, and One Show Awards. She is drawn to stories that feel both personal and structural—where emotional truth is inseparable from the systems surrounding it.
